What is Huntington's Chorea?

Huntington's Chorea, also known as HD, is one of the most dreadful diseases in the world! Currently there are more than 20,000 Americans suffering with HD, and at least 150,000 have a 50 percent chance of devloping HD.

HD is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder. This disease targets the degeneration of nerve cells in certain areas of the human brain. The basal ganglia is the most specific part of the brain affected. The basal ganglia is found deep within the brain and controls several important body functions, one of which is the coordination of movement. The brain's cortex, which controls memory, thought and perception, is also severly affected.
